UPLB, UPLBAA hold 92nd LD festivities

UPLB and UPLBAA held a series of activities before and after Oct. 10, Loyalty Day (LD), and on Loyalty Day itself to celebrate the 92nd anniversary when the men of the UP College of Agriculture volunteered in 1918 to fight beside allied forces as members of the Philippine National Guard during World War I.

The UPCAns, composed of faculty, staff, and students, were not able to fight in the war with the declaration of armistice a month later but the day has been celebrated since 1923 at UPCA, now UPLB, as Loyalty Day and as an occasion for the alumni to touch base in Los Baños .

This year's celebration featured tennis and golf tournaments, a pre-LD get together at the Baradas residence in Tanauan, Batangas, professorial and centennial fellow lectures, a flower and garden show, college alumni homecoming, dedication and turnover of portals and landmarks, alumni fellowship and awards night to honor outstanding alumni, and an exhibit featuring UPLB products.

Festivities peaked on Oct. 10 with the Loyalty Day Parade where Class '60, the golden jubilarian class, showed its force by being the most represented honoree class, the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, which is celebrating its centennial, setting up a beautiful float, a skydiving exhibition by the Philippine National Police Skydiving Force, and a well attended parade with participants from the University units and from the Los Baños science community. The celebration was capped off by a salu-salo lunch, the UPLBAA General Assembly, and the Grand Centennial Raffle Draw.
