The Agricultural Machinery Testing and Evaluation Center (AMTEC) of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) had developed eight Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards (PAES) for four multicrop processing machines for raw agricultural crops: ginger, pandan, lemon grass and arrowroot. Machines intended for commercialization can be evaluated using these standards, and manufacturers can refer to them in improving the design and fabrication of the machines. This component is part of the project entitled "Multicrop Processing Machines for Commercialization" that got support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) thru its Technology Innovation for Commercialization (TECHNICOM) Program. Aimed at facilitating the promotion and commercialization of the multicrop processing equipment such as multicrop washer-peeler, juice extractor, crystallizer and micromill, this is one way of encouraging the growth of small and medium enterprises in the area of agri-based business concerns.Initiated by the Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry through its Department of Agricultural Engineering, the project was proposed when mechanization technologies for ginger processing were brought about as a result of its project named "Zero Waste Ginger Processing Technology." The component 2 of the DOST-funded project entitled "Development of Quality Standards and Performance Testing of Multicrop Processing Machines" was implemented by CEAT, UPLB researchers that started mid-September of 2007 and was completed in July 2008. On the other hand, Component 1 entitled "Feasibility Study on Commercialization of Ginger Tea and other Processed Products from Ginger, Pandan, Lemon Grass and Arrowroot" was implemented by the Economic Department of the Bicol University.
